H.O.L.D. (Hillside, Oxtongue Lake, Dwight) Community Group

H.O.L.D. is comprised of volunteers and business owners in the Highway 60 corridor between Huntsville and Algonquin Park. We organize annual fundraisers and special events and use the proceeds to better our communities. We also publish an area brochure, maintain a website and a Facebook page ( We’re very excited about our little neck of the woods and want to share it with you!

We raise funds for library projects, act as advocates on behalf of the library and have lots of fun doing it! Ragged Falls and Oxtongue River Trail


Ragged Falls is just outside the west gate of Algonquin Provincial Park. It is considered one of the top 10 waterfalls in Ontario. A short trail leads from the parking lot (off Hwy 60) to a lookout of the thundering whitewater falls. Read more about the 1km long Oxtongue River Trail here:

Oxtongue Rapids Park


Oxtongue Rapids Park Road is one of the most picturesque spots in Muskoka! These whitewater rapids inspired the Group of Seven and attract photographers and painters from around the globe. The walking trail generally follows the narrow and unpaved road. There are picnic tables at the monument.

This is one of the beautiful spots in Muskoka so relax and enjoy Picnic facilities are available.

Trail access is on Oxtongue Rapids Park Road. Follow this paved road 1 km. At this point the road becomes a narrow gravel road. Proceed 2 km to the monument in Oxtongue Rapids Park, which is the start of the trail. From the monument travel west along the trail to the left of the road you arrived on. At times the trail will follow the road itself as it comes quite close to the river. Trail length is about 1 km or 1250 steps one way. Return the same way or follow the road back to the monument.

Moorelands-Kawagama Day Camp


Moorelands-Kawagama Day Camp is an adventure-based day camp on Kawagama Lake, Ontario, that shares facilities and programming with Moorelands Camp. Each session is Monday to Friday from July 6 through to August 14, 2015. Camp begins at noon on Mondays, and at 9 am on Tuesdays through Fridays. Camp ends at 4:30 each day. The campers also have the opportunity to stay for the evening on Wednesday and participate in a hike and cookout. Come for one week, two weeks, or every week! Campers will enjoy action-packed days full of fun and exciting activities. No need to pack a lunch, a daily delicious and nutritious hot lunch is included.

Dwight Farmer’s Market


At the Dwight Farmer’s Market, our aim is to create an inviting environment for residents and guests of Dwight and the surrounding area to experience wholesome food, arts and education by bringing together farmers, artisans, educators, entertainers and service providers from the Muskoka/Haliburton area.

Location: 1009 Dwight Beach Road, the old Township Building site.

Tall Pines Snowmobile Club, Dorset

Tall Pines Snowmobile Club (TPSC Dorset) LogoThe Tall Pines Snowmobile Club (TPSC) is located in Dorset, Ontario, in the heart of Southern Ontario’s snowbelt region. We’re about two and a half(2 ½) hours north of Toronto, or about forty(40) minutes east of Bracebridge.

As a member of the Muskoka Snowmobile Region(MSR) and the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs(OFSC), our trail system extends from Muskoka in the West to the borders of Algonquin Park in the East.

We have some of the nicest +200km of groomed trails covering the Muskoka and Haliburton Highland regions!



Algonquin Snowmobile Club, Dwight


In 1963 four intrepid entrepreneurs met to forge an organization that would promote the newly popular sport of snowmobiling in the Dwight – Oxtongue area.

This was the beginning of the Algonquin Snowmobile Club, the very first organized trail building club in Ontario.

This group set about mapping and clearing trails, designing drags and spreading the Good News far and wide.

Tom Smith, whose cottage, “Loon Echo” was on Lawson Rd, was largely responsible for organizing the Echo Lake Association. Tom served as its first President in 1975. The rest of the inaugural executive council were: VP, Elliott Posen, Treasurer, Mel Tolman, and Secretary, Barbara Gray. 


The objectives of the Association shall be as follows:

a) to create an environment that shall be beneficial for all residents of Echo Lake, Muskoka, Ontario to the detriment of none.

b) to make representations to various municipal, provincial and federal agencies that will result in the betterment of the environment of Echo Lake.

c) to establish a forum to receive representations from members and other interested parties.

d) to generally assist all members of the Association in any manner consistent with the Objectives of the Association


Baysville Dam, Baysville

You can watch the water flow over the dam from both sides of the river.  There are Muskoka chairs, a gazebo as well as picnic tables to enjoy the view and have a snack.  There is also a dock that can be used to relax or launch a canoe or kayak.

S.S. Bigwin


Come sail on the SS Bigwin! This historical steamship from the early 1900’s was recently restored by a coalition of Lake of Bays cottagers, residents and organizations who conducted a massive fundraising and restoration project to return this precious part of lost heritage for residents and visitors to Lake of Bays.

The SS Bigwin offers regularly scheduled one-hour public cruises starting in June through to October. Departures are from the dock in Dorset. Arrive early so you can tour the Lake of Bays Marine Museum to learn more about the history of Lake of Bays, check out some local art on display in our upstairs art gallery, or purchase SS Bigwin merchandise.
